What is Distributed Generation (DG)?

Distributed Generation (DG) is the term used to refer to electricity that is generated close to or at the point of consumption, using renewable energy sources.¹Since 2012, Brazilian consumers have been able to generate their own energy from renewable sources and even supply any surplus back to the local distribution grid.² Unlike Centralized Generation (CG), generation close to the point of consumption allows for reductions in energy losses and decreases costs associated with the expansion of the electrical sector.
